Disney hotels are great…but they could be better!
Often it feels as though Disney World hotels have everything. Special perks, amazing theming, delicious eateries, and awesome amenities keep us coming back for more. However, there is one thing Disney World hotels could do with their beds that would skyrocket them into a league of their own against the competition.
Disney World hotels often offer queen-sized beds and less frequently kings, but there is a new bed size they could include that would take the accommodations game to the next level.
According to The Washington Post, a new type of king mattress is taking the world by storm. The Alaskan-king mattress is designed by Miami-based interior designer Guimar Urbina, who specializes in supersized furniture for pro athletes.
These massive mattresses, measuring 9 feet by 9 feet, are large enough to comfortably accommodate four adults, making them ideal for families. This is where they can really come into play at Disney World, as they could be great options for families looking to maximize sleeping space. According to The Washington Post, Alaskans are roughly the size of two full-sized beds jammed together with an added 28 inches of length.
Other relatives of the Alaskan-kings that would be considered upgrades at Disney World hotels include the Montana-king (84-by-84 inches) and the Texas-king (80-by-98 inches). These mattresses are all niche products and are custom-made for high-income buyers (mostly pro athletes), but they could change the way we stay at Disney.
There is one glaring issue with putting these oversized beds in Disney World hotels, however. Most spaces won’t be large enough to really accommodate the beds. This could be a temporary problem, though. Bed size increases have steadily been in demand since World War II, which is a reflection of homes getting bigger. This trend also indicates hotel rooms getting bigger.
Room size enhancements obviously come at a cost. We’d see a TON of refurbishments at Disney World hotels — more than we’re even seeing right now — as room sizes would either need to be dramatically increased or more suites would need to be installed. The inclusion of these beds could also reduce the number of rooms if building additions aren’t constructed.
Still, we can’t help but be tempted by the extra comfort an Alaskan-king could provide. Imagine plopping onto one of these behemoths after a long day at the parks. We’re drifting off to sleep just thinking about it!
These beds are still very rare — and very expensive, costing around $5,000 or more from online retailers — so we’re a long way off from considering them a reality in hotels, but it’s still fun to think about, regardless!
