Attention Foolish Mortals…
Earlier this year, Disney began work on a project to both expand the queue and add a gift shop to the grounds of the original Haunted Mansion in Disneyland. Now with work winding down, we’ve gotten our first look at these devious new additions.
The new gift shop is themed to be the mansion’s carriage house and has a Southern architectural style that gels with the overall vibe of Disney’s antebellum Haunted Mansion.
Concept art for the additions, as well as a letter “from “ Madame Leota herself currently adorn the doors of the shop.
Beyond the retail locations, the Haunted Mansion’s grounds have been expanded considerably to serve as queue space. According to Disney, “Each of the gardens will feature unique elements ranging from a water fountain and gazebo to themed statuary and landscaping. “
There are details galore in the new grounds, including this eerie wrought-iron gazebo…
…a fountain with nautical touches (which calls back to one of the initially planned backstories for the Haunted Mansion involving a corrupt sea captain)…
…and even sculptural touches reminiscent of the aforementioned Madame Leota.
Currently, the Haunted Mansion — in the guise of its Haunted Mansion Holiday seasonal overlay — is operating on a virtual queue system. Stay tuned to AllEars for more Disneyland updates.
