Disney World wait times are NO joke.
Particularly as we get into the summer season, wait times can be so high they’ll make you cringe. And ride closures can cause further complications. Each day, we take a look at the previous day’s wait times to see what things you should be prepared for and now we’ve spotted something particularly telling about the season we’re in.
On June 21st, some wait times in Disney World weren’t all that bad, particularly in the earlier morning hours. But at certain parts of the day, some hit attractions had EXTREMELY long waits — we’re talking in excess of 3 hours!
Avatar Flight of Passage hit a 240-minute wait (4 HOURS!!) at 2PM, though it had lower wait times at other points of the day.
But the worst wait time by far was over at Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance where, after being closed for much of the day, the ride ultimately hit a 365-minute wait time at 4PM and 5PM. Thankfully, wait times did drop after that (and were lower at one point before that too) but it still means that some guests could have waited just over 6 HOURS for that single ride!
It seems that the extended closure at this ride could have caused wait times to spike once it reopened and all those waiting to get on it finally had the chance to do so.
Unfortunately, ride closures aren’t something you can predict, but they are something to keep in mind. If you do see that a popular ride you’re hoping to get on has temporarily closed, be sure to check with the Cast Members outside of the ride to see if they have any information as to when it will reopen. If you can catch the ride just as it reopens, you may be able to get on without too long of a wait before the rest of the crowds realize it has reopened and jump in line.
You can also keep a close eye on the My Disney Experience app to watch for updates there. If the ride does hit a high wait time like Rise of the Resistance did ,consider waiting for a little bit to see if that wait time drops — as it did in this case. Just be careful waiting too long toward the end of the night when another sudden closure could shut down your ride plans for the night.

I was there that day. About 30 minutes prior to it reopening I heard radio chatter (I pay attention to the most random things) that they had finally started ride checks. So I made sure I was nearby the entrance. Since we were in standby, and the park focused on getting Lightning Lane positions fulfilled first, they still took over an hour to get to even a few hundred standby patrons.
I wish Disney would just post in Big Red Letters “you need to purchase
Genie Plus or you won’t be able to get on any rides. Genie Plus has
become a “no wait at all” option vs. a “Less time wait”.
I got better things to do than PAY WDW hundreds or even thousands of dollars to stand in line for 1 to 6 six hours. YIKES !!!!
