Multiple Ride CLOSURES and MULTI-HOUR Waits — Disney World Had Quite the Day

July 20th was an interesting one in Disney World, to say the least.

Just like the day before, temporary closures seemed to potentially complicate things, making more a challenging day of LONG wait times at certain attractions. Yesterday alone we saw 20 rides temporarily close at one point or another during the day. We also saw some rides hit MULTI-HOUR waits. So what should you do on a day like that? We’ve got some tips right here.

Yesterday we saw 2 rides, in particular, have some SERIOUSLY LONG wait times: Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This is no surprise as these rides are very popular in their respective parks and can often have long wait times. But it seems temporary closures at other rides may have only made things worse. So, what can you do to get around or otherwise prepare for multi-hour waits at these popular rides?

First, if you want to ride Flight of Passage and Rise of the Resistance without the long standby lines, you may want to purchase the Individual Lightning Lane access option for each ride through Disney Genie. This will allow you to skip the standby line and use the Lightning Lane at those attractions.

You can also consider utilizing things like Early Theme Park Entry or Extended Evening Hours to give yourself more time in the parks to get all of your must-dos done. Both of these perks are exclusive to Disney World hotel guests (and select other qualifying hotels), with Extended Evening Hours limited only to those staying at Deluxe Hotels or Deluxe Villas.

Consider, also, whether rope dropping or Park Hopping could also help you accomplish more. Park Hopping can be particularly helpful as some wait times tend to drop further into the afternoon/evening.

What about unexpected, temporary ride closures? Well, you can’t really plan for them, but you can make a backup plan of rides to hop on if your favorite ride is down due to weather (remember lightning in the area will close down outdoor attractions) or other technical issues and problems.

It might also be a good opportunity to check out attractions you normally wouldn’t, particularly ones that are indoors (and maybe even air-conditioned!) However, temporary ride closures can equal longer lines at the remaining available attractions, so you might want to purchase Disney Genie+ to bypass those standby lines, or keep an eye on those wait times in the My Disney Experience app.
