NEWS: ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Hits a RARE Box Office Milestone

The film shattered several box office records and milestones, including dethroning James Cameron’s Avatar to become the third highest domestic grossing movie ever. Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available for digital purchase, but it is STILL still pulling in big numbers at the box office adding another record to its already big list.

This weekend, Spider-Man: No Way Home reached $800M in the domestic box office joining the ranks of only two other movies, according to Deadline. The only other two other movies that have ever reached this milestone — 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936.6M,) and 2019’s Avengers: Endgame ($858.3M.)

One thing to note is that Spider-Man achieved these numbers despite being released during the COVID-19 pandemic. Just 88 days after its theatrical release (a window that was common pre-pandemic), Spider-Man: No Way Home was released digitally where it has reportedly sold 2.1M+ units for about $42M, a digital sales record for an opening week.

While many production companies (Disney included) have shifted a lot of their attention to streaming services in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the success that Spider-Man: No Way Home has had in the theaters could signal a move back to theatrical release windows that are more similar to those before 2020.

The movie has yet to be crowned the highest-earning Marvel film (as Avengers: Infinity War currently holds the title), but we’ll be keeping an eye out for if and when that happens. And, in the meantime, be sure to stay tuned to AllEars for more Disney entertainment news and updates!
