The Walt Disney Company has been making an effort to reduce their carbon footprint and implement more eco-friendly decisions, such as by using solar panels, reducing plastic waste, and more.
Recently, Disneyland Resort actually won an award for their new food waste bins, and Disney World added new trash cans that collect recyclable materials that can be re-made into items for the park, like furniture. Now Disney is recognizing guests who are also contributing to environmental efforts around the parks!
Dr. Mark Penning, Vice President of Disney’s Animals, Science, and Environment, recently posted about the Guest Environmental Hero Award! If you’re at a Disney Park and you demonstrate care for the environment, you could be recognized too.
The first guests to receive the Guest Environmental Hero Award were awarded for recycling and using a refillable water bottle, and Dr. Penning said that you could also be rewarded for using reusable bags, eating plant-based or sustainable seafood, placing trash and recyclables in the correct bins, and more.
This special pin is designed to look like a green leaf, with a Mickey shape and “Environmental Hero” in big letters.
And it’s not just guests who can earn this award. Cast Members can now earn the Cast Environmental Hero Award by demonstrating dedication to helping the environment! Dr. Penning posted that Cast Members have been recognized all over the world for their environmental efforts.
So next time you’re in a Disney Park, remember to recycle and be a friend to the environment. You never know, you might be the next Guest Environmental Hero!

What about all the plastic tickets? They should have some kind of receptacle for them at the exit.
