Orlando Airport Expected to Be BUSY for Labor Day Weekend

COVID-19 continues to affect the travel industry in the United States.

TSA just reported the lowest traveler numbers since May and the CDC has recommended that unvaccinated people avoid traveling over Labor Day weekend, but according to Orlando International Airport, they’re about to see a major surge in travelers this holiday weekend.

Click Orlando reported that Orlando International Airport officials are now predicting more than 303,000 departures over Labor Day weekend, which is a 7% increase from the same time in 2019.

According to Click Orlando, airport officials released a statement claiming, “This holiday it appears many travelers are soaking in the last bit of summer by taking a trip to Orlando.” While Orlando International Airport saw 76 million people in 2019, travelers dropped to 35.3 million in 2020.

Officials consider Labor Day weekend to begin on September 2nd and end on September 7th, with Saturday considered to be the busiest day of Labor Day weekend. Officials are predicting Orlando International Airport to have more than 53,000 departures that day, and if their forecast is correct, it would also be double the travelers from Labor Day weekend in 2020.
