Amy Adams Joins the Cast of the 'Dear Evan Hansen' Movie!

Although Broadway is dark at the moment, musical theatre fans have been able to enjoy some great performances online.

Earlier this year, Hamilton was released on Disney+ and lots of fun content was released along with it. Disney is also working on a movie adaptation for the musical Once On This Island! Now, Universal is working on a movie adaptation of a popular Broadway musical and more of the cast has been announced!

Dear Evan Hansen follows the story of high schooler Evan Hansen who has social anxiety. After a classmate commits suicide, Hansen gets unintentionally wrapped up in a lie when a letter that Hansen wrote to himself is mistaken for his classmate’s suicide note. The story follows Hansen’s compelling and complex journey to be found.

According to Deadline, Universal is working on a movie adaptation of this musical and several cast members have now been announced. Amy Adams, who Disney fans will recognize as Giselle from the Disney movie Enchanted, will be joining the cast.

Adams will play Cynthia Murphy, the mother of Evan Hansen’s classmate who commits suicide. We’re excited to hear Adams singing again (and it won’t be to birds this time)!

According to Deadline, Danny Pino will also be joining the cast as the stepfather to Hansen’s classmate who commits suicide. This role is a unique one that has been created specifically for the movie adaptation.

Deadline also reports that other members of the cast of the movie include Ben Platt, who originated the role of Evan Hansen on Broadway, along with Kaitlyn Dever, and Amandla Stenberg.
