| Shopping | Interesting Facts You will find the strangest creatures in this zoo for all ages. Based on the Dr. Seuss story of Gerald McGrew and the way he wants to run his zoo. Gerald McGrew's If I Ran The Zoo is a play area with 19 different interactive elements. There are three different sections to visit in this crazy zoo. The Hedges, the Water Island and the New Zoo. Don't miss the "Zoo Keeper's Code of Conduct" at the entrance: "Keep track of adults, they get lost all the time." Strange Seussian animals will pop up over "Hedges" when you tickle their feet or turn a handle. Crawl through a cave in Kartoom, while trying to find the elusive Natch. Kids will want to spend a good deal of time on the "Island" with all its shooting water fountains -- it is surrounded by a wading pool. And finally, in the "New Zoo" area, play on some zany animals (there are no lions or tigers or bears in Gerald McGrew's zoo) and see what happens when you use mini water cannons to disturb a zoo resident during his bubble bath. A reproduction of McGrew's Skeegle-mobile is a big hit. Gerald McGrew's If I Ran The Zoo has lots of nooks and tunnels so it can be easy to get separated from your children. Due to the nature of this attraction, children can get soaked, if they choose. A dry set of clothing may come in handy. Don't miss McElligott's Pool, which is on your right when entering Seuss Landing from Port of Entry. Although truly not an attraction, it's a great place to take a break and enjoy the pond, which is full of Seuss characters and peaceful water falls. Another Seuss Landing area that can easily be overlooked is Sneetch Beach located on the Great Inland Sea. Most of the "Islands" in IOA have paths along the water that are very serene and peaceful. These paths and walkways will give you a whole new view of the park and many great photo opportunities. The nearest restrooms to the
exit of Gerald McGrew's If I Ran The Zoo are located just outside
the entrance to Seuss Landing, next to the Confisco Grille. The restrooms
closest to the entrance of this attraction are located between One
Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish and Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-Pendous
Restaurant.
Seuss Characters can be found in front of Dr. Seuss' All The Books You Can Read Store at various times throughout the day. Occasionally, the Seuss Characters will appear at McElligott's Pool located just pass the entry to Seuss Landing next to Port of Entry. Characters include The Cat In The Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2, The Grinch and More. Check your park guide for times and locations. Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-Pendous
featuring fried chicken, spaghetti, pizza and salad. Dine inside this
ingeniously designed circus tent with animated mobiles of Seuss creatures
overhead including trapeze flyers, upside down airplane flyers and other
Seuss creations.
Mulberry Street Store with "Gizmos, Gadgets, Goodies Galore" will provide a great shopping opportunity for all kinds of Seuss-inspired souvenirs, games and apparel. There's even a separate kid-size entrance. Dr. Seuss's All The Books You Can Read - Here you will find everything you can think of to fill up your own Dr. Seuss Library from books, DVDs and Videos. Kid-size reading tables and chairs make a nice addition to this shop. This shop was home to the Meet and Greet for The Grinch during this past Grinchmas. Cats, Hats & Things - Everything you can think of from The Cat In The Hat. Apparel, toys, DVDs and more. You will exit through this shop after riding The Cat In The Hat attraction. Snookers & Snookers Sweet Candy Cookers - Grab a candied apple or treats by the pound from the towering candy dispensers. Try stepping on some of Sneetch footprints outside of this shop and see what happens.
Every line you see in Seuss Landing, which covers 10 acres, is curved including the palms trees and queue rails. Many of the odd shaped palm trees were transplanted from South Florida and were the results of the fury of Hurricane Andrew. A very overlooked little nook can be found next to the Cats, Hats & Things Shop. It's a private courtyard with a kid-size entrance where you will find Horton's Spotted Egg. Kids are invited to climb on top of it. Have your camera ready. Just outside of the Mulberry Street Store is another fun photo opportunity that puts guests inside a Seussian Police Motorcycle Side Car that is parading pass some of the head honchos of Seuss Landing watching from their raised viewing tent. The background music you hear in Seuss Landing was created by some strange instruments such a harp made with rubber bands instead of strings.
