Introduction | Attraction | Touring Tips | Kids/Characters | Dining | Shopping | Interesting Facts The Incredible Hulk Coaster is one of several signature attractions at Universal's Islands of Adventure. The unmistakable green snaking shape can be seen for miles around the resort. But it is only after you enter Marvel Super Hero Island, to your left after pass through Port of Entry the gateway to Islands of Adventure, that you really appreciate it's sheer scale and distinctive sound.
Your quest, if you are up to it, is to help Dr. Banner reverse the effects of his exposure to gamma rays from the bomb explosion, which has caused him to transform into The Incredible Hulk for all these years. Simple task: Ride the coaster. Should be an easy task for all of us new scientists till something goes wrong. The Incredible Hulk -- This attraction starts with a standard coaster climb for a few seconds and then all bets are off in this cannon/launch tunnel. Before you have time to think, the coaster is catapulted in 3 seconds up the 150 foot tunnel. As you exit the launch at 45 MPH and 110 feet above the ground, you will take a sharp twist to the left and feel the same weightlessness that a F-16 jet fighter pilot experiences. Next, get ready for the Cobra Roll, before heading into the highest inversion loop of any coaster at 109 feet. Next you head into the first of two subterranean trenches, which lead you under the bridge where the more faint of heart hang out watching the braver souls scream their lungs out. Then it's onto the carousel, which turns to the left around the main lift, a left-handed corkscrew and into the second vertical loop, smaller than the first. A 270 degree left turn above the station turns into a 360 degree right turn and a dive, followed by the right-handed corkscrew and a 180 degree turn (where your photo is taken) and the final 360 degree helix. A left handed 90 degree turn takes you to the station. After finishing the ride you can pick up the picture of your party on board. With a total of seven, yes, seven inversions, The Incredible Hulk is sure to get your adrenaline pumping. Some of the later inversions are there just to slow down your speed before reaching the end of the ride. The track layout includes seven inversions and two subterranean trenches. The Incredible Hulk Coaster is an Universal Express Attraction.

The Incredible Hulk consumes so much electricity that in order not to dim all the lights in the surrounding communities each the coaster is launched, Universal draws power at a constant rate from the city's power grid and stores it a huge flywheel hidden in a building on the Inland Waterway labeled Power Source. The ride lasts 2 minutes and 15 seconds. The green tracks of The Incredible Hulk glow after dark. The Incredible Hulk launches riders upward 150 feet in three seconds. Immediately, riders experience a zero-g heartline inversion and turned upside down 110-feet above the ground. The Incredible Hulk reaches top speeds of 67 mph. It also features one of the highest inversions in the world at 109 feet. The G-force experienced on the Incredible Hulk Coaster is equivalent to that felt by the pilot of an F-16 fighter jet. There is enough electrical cable in the Incredible Hulk's booster (which thrusts guests up the initial incline) to cover the length of the Boston Marathon (26 miles). The Incredible Hulk launcher provides about 45,000 pounds of thrust for two seconds. If the same thrust were used on a bowing ball, it would reach the Pacific Ocean. The steel frame of the coaster is hollow; this creates the distinctive "roaring" sound heard as the coaster moves along the track. The ride is featured in the film "House on Haunted Hill." It is in the opening sequence when Lisa Loeb visits Vincent Price's theme park. |
