Is Disney Over- or Under-Theming?

Posted on
When Disney makes a change, whether it's to a hotel room design, new attraction, or re-imagineering an existing attraction or restaurant fans and guests feel one of two ways: "it's over-themed" or "where did the theme go?" We take a look at whether Disney is overdoing it or under-theming its parks and resorts.

This Way to Fantasmic

Disney’s Hollywood Studios (aka MGM Studios) has a large (get it?) assortment of billboards staggered throughout the park. I don’t think that it’s necessarily very Hollywood since signage on Sunset Blvd and Hollywood Blvd (in Hollywood) consists of moving imagery, flashing lights, and entire sides of buildings. Honestly, they’re extremely distracting for drivers. So, as … Continue reading "This Way to Fantasmic"

Signs that You’re in a Disney Park

Everything is matchy-matchy, themed, and ensembleized (new word) at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World. It’s like each land is wearing Garanimals (way before my time). But that’s what we love, that extreme attention to detail that assists in transporting us to another place where lunch isn’t timed and the only dress code is wear … Continue reading "Signs that You’re in a Disney Park"

Disney Pic of the Week – All-Star Resorts

Posted on
Family-friendly, enjoyable for solo travelers, and kitschy fun for friends, the various All-Star Resorts at Walt Disney World are considered value resorts given they’re priced lower than the rest of the on-property accommodations. Themed from top to bottom, inside and out with ginormous character icons, toys, athletic gear, musical instruments, and more, All-Star Resorts are … Continue reading "Disney Pic of the Week – All-Star Resorts"

Disney Pic of the Week – Lighting Fixtures

Over the years, my fellow Picture This! bloggers and I have tried to cover everything possible as topics for our Disney Pic of the Week. Sometimes you can guess who came up with the theme. For instance, Hunks was my idea and it was vetoed so I went with Princes or Heroes. Then there’s Star … Continue reading "Disney Pic of the Week – Lighting Fixtures"

In the meantime, enjoy my Disney Pic of the Week. I hear the call of the Ewoks. Come on over and “Like” my … Continue reading "Star Tours: Ewok On By"

Tomorrowland Arcade Time

When the little lightning bolt is on the 10 and the big lightning bolt is on the 4, you gotta get back in time. What? Yes, I’m mixing theme parks. As my pal Scott probably told you on Tuesday, clocks can be located everywhere in Disney Parks. They’re not casinos so they actually want you … Continue reading "Tomorrowland Arcade Time"

Cinderella Castle Door to Freedom

Enter the walkway to Cinderella Castle and you’ll find yourself looking at murals telling Cinderella’s story. Gemstone colors reflect light off the walls and an enormous drape closes off the path during shows on the castle stage. When the curtain is drawn and sunlight angles inward, a mystery stands by quietly. Where does the door … Continue reading "Cinderella Castle Door to Freedom"

Not Your Average Maple Leaf

Once upon a time, a young and witty auburn-haired girl lived near The Happiest Place on Earth for over four years. She spent hundreds of hours strolling and playing in the park, enjoying the California weather. One day during a visit to Snow White’s Scary Adventure she stood in line and looked at the railing … Continue reading "Not Your Average Maple Leaf"
