RIP Great Movie Ride, Universe of Energy, and Main Street Electrical Parade

So we took a short break from our everlasting Expo coverage to make a hasty Walt Disney World and Disneyland pilgrimage to say goodbye to a couple of old friends. Over at Disneyland, the evergreen Main Street Electrical Parade glowed away once again. It’s always a little sad to see something that’s been around that … Continue reading "RIP Great Movie Ride, Universe of Energy, and Main Street Electrical Parade"

Despite ANY fears I may have, I am determined to ride every single ride at Walt Disney World at least once. The look on my face is sheer terror! I rode Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster just twice! Linda, of course, thought it was a BLAST!

One that is often overlooked is the “Super Soap Weekend”. Beginning somewhere around 1999, this special weekend was generally held in the fall. The Imagineers left quite a few nods to the glamour days of Hollywood when they built Disney’s MGM Studios and Echo Lake is a place where you can find all kinds of nuances. Think Rocketeer! I’m a tad embarrassed to admit this to you, but Disney’s Hollywood Studios is probably the park I have photographed the least. That face became abundantly clear when I realized I have very few older photos of good ole’ “MGM”. However, I DO have a press kit from WALT Disney Imagineering dated 1989, that has … Continue reading "Disney Pic of the Week: Hollywood Blvd"

As Scott mentioned yesterday, there are so many changes happening right now at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! Wouldn’t it be nice to know what we can get excited about? Yea, I know, but it is being kept very quiet! For my pic of the week, I go back to one of my favorite Disney Parks shows … Continue reading "Disney Pic of the Week: Disney’s Hollywood Studios"

Remembering Body Wars

Posted on
The success of Star Tours in 1987 inspired the Imagineers to try developing an "inner space" attraction of a miniaturized submarine-like probe journeying through a patient's body just like in the film Fantastic Voyage (1966) for the "Wonders of Life" pavilion at Epcot in 1989. The new attraction was called Body Wars most likely because Disney guests called Star Tours the Star Wars ride or just Star Wars.
