1.) SWW - We went to Star Wars Weekend on this past Friday. If you are traveling with preschoolers avoid this park on the next several Fridays and Saturdays. The area where JoJo, Goliath, and the Little Einsteins have their meet-and-greet was taken over by scary Star Wars characters that the preschoolers wanted nothing to do with. In fact they scared many of them. Also, the Monsters, Inc. characters (on Commissary Lane) were replaced. - Penny      1061

2.) SWW - I've been there twice already. If you are a Star Wars fan it's great.

For NON Star Wars Fans: Go to the park Monday through Thursday and avoid Hollywood Studios on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I can't tell you how many times I see parents with little kids complain about all the Storm Troopers and scary Star Wars characters. The Stormtroopers will interact with the crowds and if you think your child will be frightened by them then go to Magic Kingdom instead. They usually have the right side of the park set up with the "Dark Side" characters. Remember a Wookiee can also be scary to a small child not familiar with the Star Wars characters.

For Star Wars Fans: Have patience. It will be very crowded. Many characters will be present and they will all have long lines, and they are timed because of the heat of the summer. So you may be waiting on line for a certain character, but by the time you get to the front of the line there will be another character there. Ask the Disney cast members who will be next, they are very helpful.

If you want limited edition merchandise, you WILL need to be on that line one hour prior to opening.

If you plan on staying the whole day in the Hollywood Studios, make dinner reservations prior to getting there. The restaurants fill up fast for Star Wars Weekends.

If you can get away with not renting a stroller, do it. IT IS VERY CROWDED and pushing a stroller through all those people is very difficult and frustrating. - Suzanne Friedenreich      1413

3.) SWW - Make sure you arrive early. When we were there last year, before the gates opened, we were surprised by a special performance from stormtroopers that were guarding the Studios. For about 15-20 minutes we were "held captive" and ridiculed by them until they were given permission to let us pass. It's just one more unexpected surprise from Disney that makes them the leader in the industry and why we come back again and again. - The Kuesters      1414

4.) SWW - I have been to Star Wars Weekend for four years in a row now and I love it! Being a Star Wars fan I love to see the interactions with the characters and meet the celebrities. If you are hoping to get a Fastpass for a celebrity's autograph, get there around 6:30 a.m. and line up for the desired celebrity.

Remember to get a special map with the times and info on all the events.

If you desire general merchandise that is not Limited Edition you can wait until the end of the day. Last year I saw a lot of people lining up early and they waited for hours to enter the store. When I walked up later that day there was no line.

If you just want to attend the festivities (see characters, the parade or Jedi Training Academy, celebrity Q&A) you can get there around opening time and head to the Star Wars section.

My last tip is take breaks and drink plenty of water. Most of the events are outdoors and the Florida heat during June is unforgiving. Take it easy and have fun. - yulady Rodriguez      1415

5.) SWW - Please tell your readers if you go there with intentions of doing specific activities, you must be very flexible and prepared for disappointment. Disney hypes Star Wars weekend so much they really fell short on bringing the magic. There weren't as many costumed stars as you would think, Chewy, Darth, Stormtroopers, Luke and Leia and the lines to get a picture with them all were 40-50 minutes long all day. We learned that it is more geared to the teenage and adult crowd. There wasn't anything geared for children, my sons were 7 and 9 years old. The only activity was Jedi Training Academy (a handful of older kids were picked throughout the day to train). we couldn't get close to the action and waited all day, it was jammed and the boys were very disappointed. After months of research to get the autographs of the weekend "celebrities," we were shocked to learn that you have to get to the Studios at 5 a.m. in the morning to secure a wristband that will let you get in line later in the day for that specific "celebrity" signing. MANY people were upset and complaining to the cast members about it. Many of us arrived at rope drop to find the signings were closed off all day -- no one was signing without a special wristband! Overall a bad experience, which normally never happens in the World! - Sharon Koehn      1416

6.) SWW - My son and I are big Star Wars Weekends fans. We have learned over the years that if you want a celebrity autograph you need to be in the parking lot at the crack of dawn – literally. We aren't that devoted to do that. What we do is make sure we get to the Stars of the Saga. They only do this show once each day and it is not to be missed. The celebrities for that weekend will be there in a talk show type setting and they tend to be very relaxed and usually very funny. It is a great way to feel like you met a celebrity even if you didn’t get their autograph. May the force be with you! - Coleen      1417

7.) SWW - I've attended Disney's Star Wars Weekends for six straight years now, and have gone through my own Jedi trials while figuring out the best way to handle this highly attended event.

-- If you want pins, t-shirts, or a print to collect your autographs on, try to get it on the first Friday of the event. This is the day in which all the brand new goodies get released, and the line is always quite long. I waited in line for four hours last year (that's AFTER I waited two hours for the park to open) and was lucky to get exactly what I was looking for. The others behind me weren't so fortunate, as a couple of items were sold out and no longer available for the remainder of the event. Keep in mind this usually only happens with the pins, but with the event becoming more crowded with every year, you never know.

-- In the past, for the autographs, there are three lines to choose from. There will be two lines for the visiting celebrities (they are there only for one weekend), and one line for the host (he/she will be there for the entire event). If you get there early, the lines will start forming for the different celebrities out by the turnstiles (the ones on the far right are usually reserved for this). A few minutes before the park opens, a cast member will guide each individual line into the park, and you will be taken to the Fastpass machines. You will get one Fastpass per person, so if you are in line and have three tickets you'll still only get one Fastpass. If multiple people in your party want autographs, then they must be in line with you to get passes. Your pass will have a time printed on it (much like normal Fastpasses) and you will return to one of the booths set up for each celebrity at that time. The booths are usually set up around the body of water located directly across from the Indy attraction, but that is not always the case. Just ask a cast member, and they'll point you in the right direction.

-- There are only a limited number of guaranteed times that are given out for autographs, but don't give up hope if you don't get one. Once all the passes for the day are given out, they will start handing out "standby" tickets. A standby ticket works like this: once a celebrity finishes one session of autographs (there are usually three or four sessions in a day and the celebrity takes breaks between sessions) and there is still time before the celebrity takes a breather, they will start letting in those with standby tickets. Standby tickets are not a guaranteed autograph, and it could be two or three sessions before they are utilized. Keep in mind that you can try to use them at any of the autograph sessions for whichever celebrity you stood in line for, but there is a possibility that the standby pass won't be used at all. - Jason Glover      1418

8.) SWW - Bring a digital camera that holds lots of photos. Last year we took about 1000 pics and I think about 80 percent were from just Star Wars Weekend. There are so many characters just walking around. They do have areas for some characters to get pics with, but there are many more just walking around, so you have to be on your toes.

-- Dress up as your favorite character. There are fans of all ages with lightsabers and such. You can tell who the fans truly are when you're just waiting in line.

-- The Store is only open on Star Wars weekends so don't think you will be able to come back during the week. They are closed. Also the first weekend the store is a madhouse so be patient. If you come back for the second weekend it's not so bad. - tazemdevil      1419

9.) SWW - Take breaks and if you have kids with you -- give them something to do while waiting for the characters to come back from their breaks. One parent had a Star Wars trivia game going with his kids while they waited for the character to return -- kept the kids occupied (and us adults entertained too). Amazing how much the kids knew about Star Wars!. - Michelle & Steve      1420

10.) SWW - We had a similar tip last week, but it's worth repeating: Please don't take for granted how realistic the characters really are. My children love watching Star Wars movies and were very excited about meeting the characters. Until we got there! My youngest who was five at the time, was a bit frightened by seeing the characters in person and it took a few minutes to get her to warm up. Once we explained that it was makeup and costumes she let us get a few pictures and started to have more fun with it. - Mark Stubbeman      1421

11.) SWW - The wait on line for the Jedi Mickey pictures is worth the wait. My son had his Star Wars tee on, this year maybe a Jedi costume. - Alison      1422

12.) SWW - If you are a fan be sure to catch the afternoon parade. - David      1423

13.) SWW - Grab a malted at 50's Primetime Cafe, and stake out a seat for the Star Wars parade. It's a must-see for fans of the movie. My son was so excited to see an army of stormtroopers. - Penny Urell      1424

14.) SWW - Just returned from the first Star Wars Weekend - The End of Day Hoopla is not to be missed - All the characters come out - and even a special surprise guest! Arrive early (during the last Jedi Training Academy show) and find a spot between the stage and the restaurant next door. Once the show is over the ropes will be dropped and you can stand close to the stage. Beware of the crowds - they can be aggressive. - Annette Sherman       1433

15.) Star Wars Weekends - We have gone to Star Wars Weekends every year since 2006 and we love it! Best advice we can give is get there early and get a brochure with all the times of the shows/characters to plan accordingly. Since the event is for two days we try to do some of the stuff one day and the other stuff the following day. That way we don't get over-tired and actually enjoy ourselves. If you have kids bring something to keep their attention while waiting in line for characters as the lines can be long and slow. Keeping them occupied may prevent a meltdown of both kids and parents. - Mischa & Steve      1586

16.) Star Wars Weekends - If you arrive at the park before it actually opens as they are starting to let the guests into the park there are usually warriors standing on top of the entrance and they make an announcement. It is quite the sight and a lot of fun also. - Susan Eagle      1587

17.) Star Wars Weekends - Be there for the opening ceremony. It is very enjoyable. The spiel that the stormtroopers "lip sync" through is really quite funny and informative. It's worth seeing at least once and it really sets the tone for Star Wars Weekends. - Bryant Helms      1588

18.) Star Wars Weekends - We were there last year and found what we think is the best place to watch the Star Wars parade. If you can get to the steps of the new American Idol show at least 45 minutes before the start of the parade you will have a great place to watch. - William Hayes of Wilmington, Delaware      1589

19.) Star Wars Weekends - As a member of the Disney Moms Panel, I made a little video on the Jedi Training Academy: http://disneyworldforum.disney.go.com/videos.aspx. Go to page 2 of the videos and click on the photo of Darth Vader to watch the movie. - Kara B.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Note that Kara's video was made last year, so the dates of the Star Wars Weekends have changed. This year (2009) Star Wars Weekends will be held May 22 to June 14, NOT every weekend in June.       1590

20.) Star Wars Weekend - Attended Star Wars Weekend 2008. My advice is forget about all the tips. Nothing prepared me for what I experienced. So, here are my observations... As the Studios was closing, people were already camped out on Friday night for the next day's events. I got in line on Saturday around 7 a.m. and was really close to the front. Yet, I was near the end of the line for the Fastpass. How could that be? Because people were already in line for the Fastpass an hour before the gates actually opened. So, if possible, reserve a character breakfast at the Studios the day you want to attend. That will get you in the park before it opens. If not, camp out. If you can't do that, get in line around 5 or 6 a.m. A cast member told us that so many people were already in line by that time, they let them in. Lastly, you need to make a weekend of this -- plan to spend the entire weekend at the Studios because it is the only way to experience all of it. - Jeff       1591
