First stay at POFQ, and loved it! My party of 10 had 3 rooms one set adjoinging and the handicap room was a just a few rooms away. Stayed over Halloween, resort had tons of activities for the kids on Halloween including a DJ and dance party with Trick or Treating that night. Staff was super friendly. The rooms were newly renovated, nice and clean and just a bit more spacious than value resorts. My fav is the ceiling fans, really cools the room off. Grounds of resort are beautiful and quiet. Food court was delicious. Been to Disney 20 times, this is my favorite Moderate resort by far!!!!

Pros:

Beautiful scenery, quiet, smaller resort

This was our first time to stay at Port Orleans and a moderate resort. We have always stayed at a deluxe. I am so glad we took the chance and stayed here. I love the size of the resort and the staff was wonderful. The food court was much better than Captain Cooks at the Poly. We ate there several times. For the price we will never stay anywhere again. This resort seems very centrally located. The only real downside was that we had to track down bell services when we checked in. Even if this is a moderate resort, they should be there when you unload at the curb with all your bags.

The buses were usually quick but one night when we had a dining reservation in Epcot the bus didn't arrive for 40 minutes then stopped at Riverside even though it was full. Needless to say, we were late to our dining reservation.

Pros:

Location, price, food court

Cons:

buses and bell services

Stayed June 19-23, 2013. My wife and I stayed in room 4101. Buidling 4, ground level, corner room with a king sized bed.

this was our first time at a moderate level resort -- we will not stay at a value again, after enjoying this stay. I picked this resort over riverside because i love new orleans. and the theme to this resort did not disappoint. after we checked in, we walked to our room - and instantly i feel in love with the zydeco music that played lightly around the resort.

the moment we got to the room, i was very happy to see it was a corner room - two sets of windows! having just a king bed, the room was extremely spacious. the bed was not very comfortable and the springs were very loud. i think it's time to be replaced.

we only ate at the quick service location once. i didnt feel the staff was very friendly, nor did they care to assit. most of the windows had an 'order here" sign. the section serving the food i wanted did not, so i stood by one that did. only to be told i was waiting in the wrong place. i ordered a chicken sandwich. it was not very good, and it took about 20 minutes to cook.

bus service was ok. however, it was raining most afternoons during our stay. after a morning at the parks, and an afternoon at the pool - around 4pm we thought we'd head downtown for some dinner. Seemingly, so didnt everyone else. we were all crammed in the bus stop, while it poured cats and dogs around us. we waited roughly 40 minutes before a bus pulled in. and of course it filled up just as quickly as it arrived. we were fortunate enough to get on that trip, i'd hate to guess how long it took for a 2nd bus to show.

there were a few times we stopped over at the depots around the port orleans riverside. adding roughly another 10 minutes to our destination.

the hot tub is nice, and its a short distance from the pool for some nice privacy. the pool was very lively in the afternoon, with daily events going from nearly 10am straight til 5 or 6pm. it is not quiet. they play some radio friendly hits while conducting the events with a microphone. if you're looking for a quiet pool - you will not find it here. you can always walk to riverside's quiet pools if you wanted, as well - we didnt.

aside from what i've stated - this is a great resort. i will never stay at a value again, and i'd love to stay at POFQ when possible. Now i see why so many people love it!

Pros:

small/cozy feel, authentic french quarter feel, rooms

Cons:

downtown disney bus service

My wife and I stayed here December 2nd thru the 9th in 2012 for our honeymoon and we were pleasantly surprised. Our Original Choice of the Wilderness Lodge was a little too much for us so we settled on the French Quarter because of it's size. Wow were we impressed. The service was great and the door greeter was on top of his game every time we or someone else left or entered. The food staff was good for being a food court. However the Food court was my only real knock on this resort just due to the size and limited options. But being able to take advantage of Riverside was a big bonus, it's like 2 resorts in one. The boat service was great although at times it could take forever to get a boat to go to downtown disney, but it still beat taking the bus. Speaking of bus the bus service was pretty good for the most part, only had issues when trying to go back to a park during the midday, but in the morning they were very efficient.

A nice bonus was being able to take my wife on a carriage ride thru riverside which at night is quite romantic. A little expensive but worth it. Boatwright's was also a great surprise, I had read its a mediocre restaurant but it was actually quite good and we got in without a reservation or wait. Overall this was a great resort, a few negatives but not enough to deter me from staying here again, the added bonus of riverside right next door helps as well.

Pros:

Quiet, Easy to get around, Connected to Riverside

Cons:

Average Food options

My family of 4 checked into the resort on July 6th at 10:00 am. We fully expected to have to wait until later in the afternoon to actually get into our room but they had it ready and waiting. I love the updates that they have made to the rooms. 2 queen beds and the extra storage space under the sinks is invaluable when you have 4 people staying in a room. We were in building 3 on the second floor. Close to both the main building and the pool. I wish the pool had been a little deeper but the kids had fun.

The bus service was good the only day we had issues was one and that was when we had to stop at Typhoon Lagoon and all of the Riverside stops. Disney should consider having one bus for each resort especially at busy times.

The food court was nice. I wish they had more choices in the evenings but other than that, it was ok. The coffee that is provided in the rooms as well as what is offered in the food court is awful! Tastes like brown water. The coffee maker in the room doesn't get the water hot enough so I was excited that I was able to get Starbucks when I was at the Magic Kingdom. They should really update the coffee at the resorts!

The staff were all pleasant and willing to help with anything that we needed. All in all, we had a great experience and would stay here again.

Pros:

Size of Resort, updated rooms

Cons:

limited food choices at night

In 2003 we were gifted 3 nights at OKW and then paid for 2 nights at All Star Movies. Going from a high to a low we agreed that future visits we'd have to find a nice moderate. We did! In 07' we did 10 nights, 5 at POFQ then upgraded to the Contemporary, Tower Lake-side. In 09' we duplicated it again with 6 nights each resort. Both times we were sad to leave POFQ even though the Contemporary and monorail with it's proximity to MK & Epcot were great. Unfortunately their only laundry facility in the south wing was disgusting, hot and crowded, even at 1am. This time 6.27 - 7.8.13 we stayed put at POFQ and enjoyed this stay even more than before. Reasons...rooms are up-dated, including the bathroom and new firmer mattresses, and an updated laundry room. We didn't have to put a credit card on file at check-in to utilize the laundry room. All you do is pick the machine and swipe your own credit card. It couldn't have been easier. Staying 12 days and with Spirit Airlines ridiculous limit of 40 pounds per checked bag it makes this issue more important then one might think. The boat to DTD is as quaint a ride as ever. Between the boat and buses you can get to the parks and resorts with more flexibility then what's offered at other resorts. It comes in handy if you're park hopping and are on the DDP. The only pixie dust you'll find is in the lobby area where they're finishing up the last of their renovations. Book and enjoy. We did and we will again.

Pros:

small, quiet & convenient

Cons:

none

We've stayed @ many WDW resorts including Grand Floridian, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge Villas, Saratoga Springs, Carribean Beach, Boardwalk, Pop Century and from Jul 12-19 2013 @ POFQ. We were in building 5, 3rd floor with a river view. This was my favorite resort of all. Everything was close to our building .. the pool, the laundry, a 3 or 4 minute walk to the eatery and gift shop and about a 5 or 6 minute walk to the bus depot area. I love the size of the resort, not too big and not too crowded.

My only complaint is the eatery and the repetitious meals each day, since we ate our evening meals at the resort. They may have changed a vegetable or two but never the meat items. We had pizza one evening which I thought was too much bread and too little sauce/cheese. The only food I really enjoyed at the eatery was the beignets!! They really do need more variety and some healthier choices.

We took the boat to DD twice with less than a 5 minute wait at the boat dock.

As for buses, when we traveled to Hollywood Studios (early day about 7:15 am) and Magic Kingdom (early day @ 7:15 am), the bus picked us up at POFQ and drove directly to those parks .. no Riverside stops.

Returning from HS, POFQ + POR were a combined bus stop. The driver stopped @ POFQ first on the return trip from HS.

From the MK, there were separate buses for the 2 resorts.

For Animal Kingdom, we were picked up first; however the driver went to all 4 stops in Riverside too. The return trip from AK is 1 bus serving both resorts. We stopped at the water park to pick up nice dripping wet riders who were standing in the pouring rain, then the driver proceeded to POFQ first, followed by Riverside.

We took the monorail to Epcot from the Contemporary after Chef Mickey's breakfast, so we never actually rode the bus to Epcot from the resort. Coming back from Epcot, the bus stop was combined tho, stopping at POFQ first.

Buses were usually at the bus depot for POFQ within 5 - 15 minutes of our arrival there.

Overall, it's a great resort and the kids always enjoyed the greeter holding the door for everyone while chatting with them.

Pros:

Great resort .. just the right size

Cons:

The Eatery

We absolutely love French Quarter. I'm a jazz and blues fan and DW loves beignets. The boat to downtown is a wonderful ride. We take the bus from AK to downtown because they close early and take the boat. Everything is close there. Love it.

Pros:

Five minutes to anything in resort

Cons:

Bus service

Great place to stay at Disney. The pool has great activities for kids and a waterside that is fun for everyone. The boat ride to Downtown Disney is relaxing, however it wasn't always available due to weather or reasons that were unclear. Our only issue this trip was with bus. The bus was always delayed, stopped at all of the Riverside bus stops first before going to French Quarter, and were very crowded. This was very different from our experience last year at FQ and we were there at the same time last year.

Pros:

Easy access to amenities

Cons:

Buses

I love this resort. I love the size and I love the theme. I was here September 15-21. The buses were frustrating a couple of times, but for the most part I didn't have any troubles. I would absolutely recommend this resort to anyone. It was our second stay and likely we will stay here again. We walked to Riverside for dinner and the walk is beautiful.

Pros:

small size, beautiful grounds

Cons:

buses at times
