A four-hour backstage experience. During the tour you'll learn about the challenges involved in helping animals thrive, while visiting backstage animal-housing areas, the Animal Nutrition Center, and the state-of-the-art veterinary hospital, where you may witness animals being treated. Animal interaction is not guaranteed and no photography is permitted. Participants must be 12 years old or older, but those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The tour costs $90 per person, and a portion of the proceeds is donated to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. There may be discounts for Disney Visa, DVC, Annual Passholders, or D23 -- ask! Call 407-WDW-TOUR to book or for additional details.

We always wondered about how well the animals were cared for and on October 5th we found out: better than many people care for their pets! And, that's no small feat considering the size and variety. Our guides, Mark (really great!) along with Gary, and drivers Kelly and Mitchell were all knowledgeable, extremely polite and helpful. From the elephant "showers" and play yards, to the surgical suites, to the kitchens where the food is prepared - everything is done with extreme cleanliness and precision. We got to see the tiniest birds up to the elephants and rhinos. The food was grade A quality - no bruised apples or bananas for these guys. Really worth the price!

Pros:

Really, Really interesting!

Cons:

no photos!

My family took the Behind the Tales Tour at AK this past August and it was absolutely fantastic. We have tried different special events in the past such as Dining with An Imagineer and Behind the Seeds Tour and this one was extremely educational and fun. We witnessed an elephant getting a bath, a baby gorilla getting a checkout, etc. Our cast member guide, Paula, along with all the other cast members we met along the way were all wonderful. This is MUST try for anyone interested in learning what goes on behind the scenes at the AK and with the care of the animals. Note to Disney Personnel, you might want to consider having a photographer available to take a group picture with the guides.

Pros:

Informative, Enthusiastic Guides and, of course, the animals

Cons:

None
