Headless Horseman returns to Disney’s Fort Wilderness with movie screening and meet-and-greet

Posted on
The Headless Horseman has long had a place at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. After all, that is where his horse is stabled. It used to be that the only place at Walt Disney World to see the famed Headless Horseman from “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” story was at the Magic Kingdom before … Continue reading "Headless Horseman returns to Disney’s Fort Wilderness with movie screening and meet-and-greet"

Memories of River Country

I have many wonderful Disney memories, picked up over the years during all those magical trips to the sunny south. But I’ve also racked up a few Disney regrets. This blog is about one of those regrets! I never made it to Disney's first water-park, River Country . . .

The Fort Wilderness Book

Posted on
If you were to ask me, “Which Disney resort is your favorite?” I would immediately answer, “Fort Wilderness Campground.” It will probably come as no surprise to you that Carol, a compulsive collector, has saved some keepsakes, mementos and souvenirs from a resort which ranks high on her list of favorites. They were scattered throughout our home, some in her pin collection, some in the Tickle Trunk, some in scrapbooks and others in book cases or file folders. About two years ago she decided to put them all together in her new Fort Wilderness Book. Once she had it all assembled in a large 3-ring binder, we were both pleasantly surprised by some of the treasures she had picked up over the years. Here is a look at a few of the highlights from the Fort Wilderness Book.

A look back at discontinued Haunted Carriage Rides at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

I was surprised, and disappointed, to learn that Walt Disney World has discontinued its seasonal Haunted Carriage Rides at Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. When we stayed in the cabins last fall, we took the ride for the first time and enjoyed the special Halloween experience. It was just the right amount of thrill, without … Continue reading "A look back at discontinued Haunted Carriage Rides at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground"

Think Outside The Parks — Part 2

I ended Part 1 of this blog by saying that Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is a hidden gem. If you have not visited the campground you don’t know what you’re missing. Many people think “I’m not a camper so Fort Wilderness has nothing to offer me or my family.” How wrong they are! There … Continue reading "Think Outside The Parks — Part 2"

Golden Oak

Posted on
Golden Oak is a community of new homes located at the north end of Disney property. The entrance is off of Vista Boulevard (just east of the Fort Wilderness Campground). The 980-acre community (when finished) will feature the world's largest Four Seasons Resort (444 guest rooms) surrounded by approximately 450 single-family luxury homes. Connecting the various neighborhoods and the hotel will be recreational pathways, footbridges, parks, and gardens, all surrounded by undisturbed natural forest. The master-plan was developed by Walt Disney Imagineering. Although Disney will maintain the day-to-day operation of the community, the land was de-annexed from Reedy Creek and residents will be part of Orange County. Homes and lots are purchased with full ownership. Prices range from $1.5 million to $8 million.

Canada Pavilion – Part One

Posted on
There is a reason the Canada and Mexico Pavilions are located where they are along the World Showcase Lagoon. These two countries border the United States to the north and south and were thus given places of prominence along the promenade. Whether you tour World Showcase clockwise or counterclockwise, you’ll come to one of our … Continue reading "Canada Pavilion – Part One"
