MARCH 2000 Sweet-Heart of a Deal: On your honeymoon or just want to pretend? Disney's Honeymoon Escape Plan is ideal for all lovebirds. Package includes an Unlimited Magic Pass good for unlimited admission to all four Disney theme parks, all three water parks, Disney Quest and Downtown Disney Pleasure Island. Added feature is the Romantic Choice option, allowing couples to choose one of the following: dinner for two at a variety of Walt Disney World restaurants; spa treatment; tickets for la Nouba at the Cirque du Soleil theater at Downtown Disney West Side; or a 30-minute, in-park walk-around session with a photographer. Gardening Skills Blossom : The second annual Garden Design Event at the Disney Institute, March 2-5, offers participants hands-on experience in all aspects of designing, planting and maintaining a garden from first drafts on paper to installing and dedicating a garden plot. Guests can choose one of four program tracks Kitchen/Herb Gardens, Cottage Gardens, Wildlife Gardens or Formal Gardens and work with some of the world's experts to help gardening skills bloom. For reservations, call 800-282-9282. 11th Annual Pleasure Island Mardi Gras: Mardi Gras 2000 takes over the streets of Downtown Disney Pleasure Island March 3-7 for five nights of partying, New Orleans-style. Guests will marvel at two nightly parades featuring The Krewe of Caesar, direct from New Orleans, authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine and extravagant balls at each night club. Mardi Gras masqueraders will take to the rooftops several times each night to orchestrate a throwing frenzy of beads and doubloons. For more information, call 407-934-7781. Millennium Village Entertainment : For live entertainment, World Show Place at Epcot's Millennium Village offers fascinating performers from around the globe, including the famous puppets from Denmark's Tivoli Gardens. There are eight to nine live performances a day throughout the year-long millennium celebration, with artists staying for one to two weeks. Sponsored by government ministries and private corporations, more than 50 nations will be represented. Acts scheduled to appear in March include such diverse groups as Frula, a dynamic troupe of Yugoslavian dancers and musicians (through March 13) and The Briadoons with the MacCulloch Dancers, a Canadian troupe performing lively dances and music of Scottish origins (March 11-18). Atlanta Braves are a Hit : After winning eight division titles, five pennants and a world series title in the 1990s, the Atlanta Braves look to continue their era of dominance as they open their third full season of spring training at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex in March. Many of the familiar faces that have made the Braves one of America's most popular franchises return, including National League Most Valuable Player Chipper Jones and former Cy Young winners Greg Maddux, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz. The Braves spring slate of 15 home games begins on March 2. Competitors include World Series champions New York Yankees, plus rematches with post-season opponents Houston Astros and New York Mets. Disney's Martial Arts Festival : competitors ranging from 5 to over 55 years of age compete in five disciplines of martial arts Tae Kwon Do, Judo, Jujitsu, Sambo and Chinese Martial Arts during Disney's Martial Arts Festival at Disney's Wide World of Sports, March 31 - April 2. The festival kicks off March 31 with clinics held by Olympian and Pan American athletes in Tae Kwon Do and wrestling. The rest of the weekend includes competition in all five disciplines.
