Eat Around the World at Epcot's International Food & Wine Festival - LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Renowned chefs, celebrated vintners, culinary demonstrations and wine tastings will tantalize taste buds during the second annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Oct. 25-Nov. 23.
The outdoor festival around World Showcase celebrates the authentic cuisine, wine, entertainment and cultures of more than 30 nations. Guests can "travel the world" savoring international cuisine with appetizer-sized tastings priced at $1 to $3. The menu takes you from a satay bar in Southeast Asia to raclette in Switzerland, and even Down Under to venison and lamb specialties from New Zealand.
Fifty of the top chefs in America will reveal secrets of their regional specialties through cooking demonstrations at the Odyssey Pavilion, followed by book signings and question-and-answer sessions. A roster of winemakers will pour more than 200 national and international vintages throughout the month-long celebration. Kids can partake in fun, food-themed activities along World Showcase promenade. Just-for-kids menus are available throughout the festival. Admission to the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is included with regular Epcot admission.
New Attraction at Disney-MGM Studios Gives Guests Goosebumps - LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- It's a place where nightmares come to life -- where mummies, skeletons, werewolves, bats and snakes come a-haunting. It's spooky enough to give you . . . Goosebumps. "Goosebumps" creator and packager Parachute Properties and author R.L. Stine join Walt Disney World Resort to bring the scary fun of the spooky thrillers to life in the Goosebumps HorrorLand Fright Show and FunHouse at the Disney-MGM Studios.
The new Disney attraction, fittingly opening during Halloween season in October, will include a stage show starring some frightful Stine characters, a chance to meet the gang of ghouls for autographs and photos after the show, and a zany funhouse where monsters lurk around every corner. "Goosebumps" is the best-selling book series in history, and author R.L. Stine has been America's No. 1 author for the past three years.
'Not-So-Scary' Halloween Fun in Store at Magic Kingdom Oct. 30-31 - LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Put on your costume and join favorite Disney characters for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom Oct. 30 and 31. It's a Halloween celebration for the whole family with trick-or-treating throughout the park, special fireworks and a chance for youngsters to show off their duds in the "Children's Costume Parade." Mickey and his friends will join the fun dressed in their favorite costumes in the new "Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Parade." This unforgettable Halloween party lasts from 7 p.m. to midnight and requires a special ticket -- $18.50 in advance, $20 at the gate, if available. Daredevil Thrills, Sideshow Spectacle at Pleasure Island Halloween - LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- High atop a sway pole, the Ringmaster will orchestrate a strange and thrilling spectacle during Halloween at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island, Oct. 23-31. High-wire acts and motorcycle daredevils will perform overhead in the "Circus of the Living Dead," a traveling carnival that has taken over the six-acre nighttime entertainment complex for a nine-day Halloween party. A sideshow of the incredible and bizarre adds to the fun, which begins at 7 p.m. each night. Admission to Pleasure Island Halloween is included in the regular Pleasure Island admission of $17.95. Collectors Gather For Annual Teddy Bear and Doll Convention - LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Exclusive teddy bear and doll limited-edition collectibles will be showcased during the annual Walt Disney World Teddy Bear and Doll Convention at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Nov. 6-9. Now in its 10th year at Disney, the convention has become a must-see for doll and bear collectors. More than 70 world-renowned artists and their creations will join collectors for a series of workshops, appearances, a private sale, an auction and a grand finale party. Space Celebration Puts Epcot Into Orbit Oct. 3-7 -- LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla . -- Epcot teams up with NASA to present the Epcot Space Celebration Oct. 3-7. While Pathfinder makes important discoveries on Mars, Epcot guests can make some remarkable discoveries of their own. Fascinating displays and hands-on exhibits give guests the inside story on the future of rockets and a look at space suits of the past and present. Kids will get a chance to build their own model rockets. Astronauts from the Apollo space program will be on hand, and guests can participate in daily conversations with some of these pioneering space explorers.
Twice the Water Park Action For One Special Price - LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Florida residents, Magic Kingdom Club members, and Annual and Seasonal Passport holders can enjoy two Walt Disney World water park visits for the price of one now through Nov. 5. This two-for-one ticket is good for two visits by one guest to either Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon. Guests can visit the same park twice or both parks on separate days. Tickets can be purchased at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon for $24.95, plus tax, for guests 10 and older, and $19.50, plus tax, for ages 3- 9. Proof of Florida residency, Magic Kingdom Club membership, or Annual or Seasonal Passport is required. From Nov. 2-5, tickets can be used only at Blizzard Beach.
LEGO Imagination Center Opens at Downtown Disney Marketplace - L AKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- LEGO Systems, Inc., makers of the world's best-selling construction toys, will open a LEGO Imagination Center -- only the second in the United States -- at Downtown Disney Marketplace. The 4,400-square-foot store also includes a 3,000-square-foot outdoor play area and showcases up to 75 fanciful LEGO models -- including a 30-foot sea serpent, a dinosaur family, a spaceship and construction workers "building" the new store. The LEGO Imagination Center is scheduled to open in October.
Tee Up for 27th Annual Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Golf Classic Oct. 16-19 -- LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Who will follow 1996 champion Tiger Woods into the Classic winner's circle? The answer will unfold Oct. 16-19 when 132 PGA TOUR players compete in the 27th annual Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Golf Classic. The Classic will be the next to last stop before the Tour Championship and represents the first of two 1997 opportunities for Woods to defend a professional title. For the 27th straight year since the Classic was established in December 1971 -- just two months after the opening of Walt Disney World Resort -- the Magnolia course will host the finishing round of the 72-hole event. The first three rounds will be played on the Magnolia, Palm and Lake Buena Vista courses, with three-player amateur teams accompanying the pros as they test three of Disney's five par-72 championship layouts. Experience the NFL at Disney's Wide World of Sports - LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Football fans no longer have to travel to the Super Bowl to enjoy the "NFL Experience." Each year, the NFLX is constructed in the Super Bowl host city. Now for the first time, it makes a lasting home at Disney's Wide World of Sports, a multi-million dollar complex designed to accommodate professional-caliber training and competition. The NFL Experience is the league's interactive football playground that lets fans test their football skills in 10 different, hands-on activities. The NFLX is included in the General Admission to Disney's Wide World of Sports -- $8 for ages 10 and older, $6.75 for ages 3-9.
Sports Photographer John W. McDonough at the Disney Institute -- LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Ever tried to photograph that precise moment when your son slides into home for the first time or snap your daughter in mid-air as she performs her gymnastics routine? Capturing the action at a live sporting event is what renowned sports photographer John W. McDonough will teach at the Disney Institute Oct. 24-25. McDonough, an award-winning photographer for Sports Illustrated, joins the Disney Institute Photography Artist-in-Residence series sponsored by Nikon. McDonough will host a presentation and show some of his extraordinary photographs that have been published on the covers of national sports magazines on Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. in the Performance Center.
