AROUND THE WORLD

Popular Disney Request Answered -- For 'More Characters!'

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - One of the most popular requests by Walt Disney World Resort guests has been answered: A caravan of characters now visits Walt Disney World hotels to provide early-day fun for guests.

"We hear from our guests, young and old, every day, that a special kind of magic happens when they see our Disney characters," says Rich Taylor, vice president of entertainment at the Walt Disney World Resort. "So it only seemed appropriate that we intensify that
magic during the 100 Years of Magic celebration by featuring more Disney characters than ever before."

Disney's Character Caravan is a themed bus full of Disney characters who spend an hour and a half at each resort welcoming guests on various mornings (the schedule is a surprise). Guests have the opportunity to photograph characters and request autographs during
this Disney resort-exclusive event.

Ninth Annual Walt Disney World Marathon and Half
Marathon -- Jan. 6

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The 2002 Walt Disney World Marathon and Half Marathon, scheduled for Jan. 6, 2002, will feature its largest field since the event's inception in 1994, with 18,500 participants -- 13,500
runners in the full marathon and 5,000 in the half marathon.

The 26.2-mile marathon course is one of the world's most unique, featuring a journey through Disney's Animal Kingdom, Disney-MGM Studios, Epcot and the Magic Kingdom. Along the way runners receive the support of friends and spectators, as well as popular Disney characters who make appearances along the race course.

The four-day race weekend includes the two-day Disney's Health and Fitness Expo (Jan. 4-5) and the FamilyFun Magazine 5K Fun Run (Jan. 5). The awards ceremony will be held on Jan. 7 at Disney's Wide World
of Sports complex. Registration is closed for the marathon and half marathon, but signups are available for the Fun Run up to race day.
