The History of Tea

Five thousand years ago, China's legendary Emperor Shen Nung discovered tea. People outside the Far East enjoyed tea for the first time less than 500 years ago. Tea has played an important role in world history ever since. Today the world drinks more tea than any other beverage except water. Tea both calms and stimulates, warms and cools and above all tastes delicious.

How to Brew Tea

While the verbiage may change, the traditional way of brewing tea should not. The steps are as follows:

* Warm the pot to remove any chill.
* Add one teaspoon full of tea per person plus one for the pot.
* Add water that has just come to a boil
* Let the tea steep for a good five minutes... Pour and enjoy!

Seasonal Tea Selections -
Genmai Cha- this famous Japanese "popcorn tea" is a blend of toasted rice, roasted barley, and green tealeaves with a sweet nutty finish

Cassis- an aromatic blend that perfectly harmonizes the sweet tartness of blackcurrants with the depth of black tea

Masala Black Tea Chai- a layered and complex blend of spices with notes of clove and cardamum

Gingerbread House- sweet and spicy holiday selection to bring the spirit of the season

Nutcracker- a black tea with the flavors of hazelnut and vanilla

Signature Blends -

These selections are blended exclusively by a Master Tea Blender for The Garden View Tea Room

Princess Breakfast Tea- South African Organic Rooibos flavored with vanilla beans and a hint of strawberry. This tea is rich in antioxidants and vitamins and is naturally decaffeinated

Garden View Blend- a blend of Assam and Keemun black leaves with the floral overtones of flowery Earl Grey

Mad Hatter's Tea Party- medium-bodied Ceylon tea leaves scented with the essential oils of vanilla and natural fruits, including passion fruit and pomegranate

Green and White Teas -

Jasmine Pearls- delicate yellow liquor with a sweet, scented and refreshing character

Mango Ginger- clear, light steamed green tea infused with the ripe plump flavor of mango combined with an exciting gingery twist

Berry Green- gentle tasting steamed green tea combined with sweet and juicy strawberry and blueberry flavor, finished with marigold and cornflower pedals

Apple & Elderflower- juicy apple, delicate elderflower and light Sencha green tea, infused with the quintessential orchard flavours for a light & refreshing taste

Fig & Rose White Tea- a beautiful light white tea with mellow nutty tastes, sweet fig and floral rose notes

Chakra Silver Tips- the fluffy jade coloured leaves give a liquor that has a creamy appearance, a delicate fruity flavour and a lightness of touch on the palate

Black Teas -

London Strand Earl Grey- Black China tea scented with a blend of traditional bergamot and a twist of citrus notes and real lemon peels

Garden Party- a blend of finest Assam and second flush Darjeeling Tea

Golden Tipped English Breakfast- golden tipped Assam for a strong and bold depth of flavor

2nd Flush Darjeeling- Beautiful peak second flush special fine tippy golden flower orange pekoe 1 grade. The perfect growing conditions and weather create a muscatel flavor and beautiful leaf style

Flavoured Black Teas -

Enchanted Forest- ripe forest fruits of raspberry, strawberry and blueberry, a rich creamy vanilla to compliment the depth of this black China tea

Rose Garden- deep yet delicate black China tea with a scattering of beautiful rose pedals for a charming floral flavour

Nutty Chocolate- rich Assam is a perfect partner to the flavour of delicious chocolate and creamy hazelnuts like a praline truffle

Plummy Early Grey- the combination of a smooth, mellow Chinese black tea with aromatic star anise, sweet, juicy, succulent plum and bergamont is an exciting, enticing cup, full of suprises

Oolong Tea -

Castleton Moonlight Oolong- Slender, twisted leaves of tea with furry white tips deliver deliciously mellow, fragrant liquor, and warming, lingering honey notes

Grey Dragon Oolong- Expertly plucked tender leaf buds left to dry in their characteristic needle shape. this intriguing tea combines the personalities of white silver needle tea and an aromatic oolong
