Tom Buck, I miss the old skyride too! What a great view, wasn’t it? And you could get such great photos up there. The last time I rode it, it was sunset so I did a video of the whole thing…. Cinderella Castle and Fantasyland at sunset. Happy sigh. (It also helped save the sore feet!)

So many of you not only knew what this was, but it’s original name. So, Kathy Rubin, please represent your fellow Players with the answer: The attraction was known as Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel until June 2010 when the name was changed to Prince Charming Regal Carrousel to better fit with the plans for New Fantasyland. Or, as Robert Wescovich calls it, Cindy’s Carousel because he and Cinderella are close friends.

Alan Mize adds this interesting tidbit: ” I love that Disney chose to spell it as carrousel instead of carousel since that is the original spelling. ”

Timothy Hutchinson also mentioned: “I believe this is the oldest attraction in Fantasyland as I believe it was actually built in 1917 for Olympic Park in NJ.” You are right! It originally was named The Liberty Carrousel and was built in 1917 for the Belle Isle Park in Detroit by the Philadelphia Toboggan Co. It’s one of the largest of its kind in the world. Walt Disney and his Imagineers discovered it in 1967 at Olympic Park in New Jersey. They bought it and performed an extensive renovation for the Magic Kingdom where it’s been a favorite ever since!

Lots of us ride it at all ages from the little kids to the kids of 19, 42, and 65 & above! Clay Anthony, you’re a good man, racing to THE horse for your favorite girl. 🙂
