Contributing photographer Jason of disneygeek.com sends us these photos from his trip to the parks on Friday, April 6, 2012.
They had the bridge in the Mickey and Friends Garage blocked off as they are doing some resurfacing and painting it appeared.
Since it was Spring Break they were anticipating large crowds. The sign was up and working to welcome guests and announcing the bag check. Speaking of which wonder if/when they will move to make the bag check more permanent and less temporary looking. I think it is safe to say it is here for the long run now.
There was a kiosk set up to sell tickets in addition to the ticket booths.
To the left (east) side of the DCA entrance a fair number of trees and other plants have been brought in.
Starting in DCA…the stucco work on this facade on Buena Vista Street is almost done. This is on the west(right) side of the street above the locker/restroom building.
More roof tiles going on.
Looking across the street they have the tiles ready to go.
Painting the rails along Paradise Bay
They are repainting the Screamin’ queue. So no shade for the spring breakers in line.
No visible testing activity in Cars Land this afternoon.
A closer look at the connector path between the Pacific Wharf and Cars Land. I think it would be a great preview to remove or lower the wall from the Wharf so we can have the great view into Radiator Springs.
Looks like Maters tractors are under wraps again.
No testing on Radiator Springs Racers this afternoon, but a worker walking the track.
A crew that appeared to be painting.
The view from ground level. Stanley is now out, but covered for protection.
Sarge’s sign is fully installed.
Inside the Blue Sky Cellar there is now a model of the new Matterhorn bob sleds.
A quick look toward Buena Vista Street. More overhead cables/wires are installed.
The attraction poster merchandise has found its way out into the park now.
Hopper has been relocated across the walkway from where he used to be.
Chip, Dale and Donald were coming out for pictures as I walked by. Chip stopped to say hi to me.
He put his nose right up to the camera.
The Popsicle sticks in Flik’s Fun Fair have been painted.
Moving on to Sunset Blvd. The wire/cable installation for the Red Car is moving along.
No real progress near the restrooms where almost everything has been cleaned out. Wonder if this is prep for the Mad T Party? Or just regular upkeep…
Monsters is still under wraps.
The Pixar Pals coming out to perform. This looks like it may be an interesting photo spot for the parade once it starts up this summer. The Tower of Terror makes a nice backdrop.
Hmm.. something up on a lift.. lights or speaker for the parade? Or left over ElecTRONica gear?
Speaking of ElecTRONica gear.. only one more week till it gets packed up. The 15th is the last night.
The Red Car cable/wire is now strung all the way into Buena Vista Street.
The Carthay has received lights (unfortunately they were not on this evening)
Scaffolding up as they transform the old Candy Store facade.
Between the scaffolding and Red Car lines you can see the detail work on this facade emerging.
The flags are on the cables to help the work crews see them. Noticed the bridge columns are two different colors. Wonder if that is by design or just unfinished.
The Elias & Company store front looks to be almost ready for its glass and signage.
The marquee has been painted black on the Carthay.
Looking great!
An awning was being installed at the Cafe. Also notice the roof is done here.
The roof they were working on when I entered looks complete.
A wide shot of the entrance. Notice the new trees on the left. Once open the right side will be done to match, but right now that is the temporary walkway into the park.
Now over to Disneyland…A tweak to the Magic Morning schedule this week.
Still working on Main Street. This seems to be taking a long time.
A look down a busy Main Street.
A doll release and signing this weekend.
Not much visible progress on the Carnation Cafe.
Plaza Gardens is being repainted back to its original white.. it was gold for Disneylands 50th.
Most of the scaffolding on the Matterhorn is now removed.
The side facing the Monorail platform/sub lagoon still has some scaffolding on it.
Time for a look at Buena Vista Street from the monorail.
The Red Car stop.
Circling back around looking South now.
They are working on the queue building for the Matterhorn.
Jumping back to DCA, after dinner went for a ride on the Little Mermaid. Here is a random shot.
The rafts were not being spun on the final drop of GRR.
A guitar player entertaining guests in the Grand Californian Lobby.
Walked across the street to the Disneyland Hotel.
The waterfalls were not on.
Compass books closed last weekend to make way for Earl of Sandwich.
There is now a dragon on top of the Lego Store, still under wraps as construction moves along.
Jungle Cruise was a one boat wait so went for a cruise. The first elephant, one on the left, is still out for work.
Haunted Mansion was a walk on.. odd for this early in the evening but took advantage of it.
Matterhorn from Fantasyland.
The work around the banner poles in front of the Castle is complete.
Back to DCA and a check in on Cars Land as the sun was setting.
Here is a video clip of Filmores with its changing color lights.
A look down Route 66 this evening with most of the neon on.
Kind of sad the projections on Flynns seemed to just be the ad for the video game now.
The projections on the wrap around Monsters looked interesting.
The TRON City Dance Crew Challenge is still rolling along. Here is a video from the first performance of the evening. I believe these are the last two crews then they final rounds start this week with the conclusion next weekend.
First up Outer Circle.
Followed by We Are Heros
I experimented with longer exposure shots of Sarges sign to show the animation.. but since I was shooting freehand this is the best I could do, everything longer was way too blurry. You really need a tripod or something to do it right.
Here are a couple video clips of the sign in motion. From both the Blue Sky Cellar patio as well as ground level near the bakery.
I closed out my evening with the World of Color, I watched from under the Swings this evening.
Hope you enjoyed this highlight tour of the Disneyland Resort. For additional photos and details from this trip you can check out the full Disneyland Update I posted on my site, http://disneygeek.com You can also follow me on twitter @disneygeekcom.
Hello,
Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue (I used shorthand, Monsters) is a dark ride in Disney California Adventure where you ride in a cab through through some scenes from the Pixar film. I have a photo section on it in my “By Request” area if you would like to see a little of it (http://disneygeek.com/by_request).
Jason
Katie,
The official opening date for both Cars Land and Buena Vista Street is June 15, 2012.
Jason
When is all of this supposed to be finished? We head there in July so I’ve been following the progress. Looks great!
