Hidden Mickeys Research in the Magic Kingdom

I’m working on the next edition of the Walt Disney World Hidden Mickeys book. It’s a great excuse to visit Disney World, as often as I can! On this particular day, I parked at the main MK parking lot and rode the monorail to the MK entrance. If I have the opportunity while on the monorail, I like to nod at one of my favorite Hidden Mickeys. You can spot this relaxed Mickey from either the Express or the Resort Monorail just outside the Contemporary Resort. He’s sitting on the roof, smiling at the passengers and enjoying the Florida sun!

I managed a photo of “Let the Memories Begin” above the famous image of Mickey Mouse before my monorail train pulled into the MK station.

One of the great pleasures of Hidden Mickey hunting is discovering a new one, right? Brad and Brittany Paliswat let me know of a classic Hidden Mickey traced on a light fixture at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Frontierland. It’s on the second light from the far right, as you face the food order registers. Brad and Brittany spotted this image many months ago, and I verified recently that it’s still in place, although the left ear has become less visible over time. I want to thank the Cast Member, Manager or Imagineer that created this Hidden Mickey, and I hope it stays around for a long while!

I stopped by the Hall of Presidents to salute George Washington and the tiny classic Hidden Mickey at the end of his sword. (This image was voted in on my website). It’s in a painting on the wall in the waiting lobby, just to the right of the theater entrance.

As you know, Hidden Mickeys disappear at times. (That’s why we need to continually check them out!) The Hidden Mickey formed by a plate and cups on the dining table at the end of the walkthrough in the Swiss Family Treehouse is no more; the dining ware has been moved around. The Hidden Mickey formed by barrels inside the wheelbarrow outside Columbia Harbour House restaurant has also disappeared.

But this guy is still waiting to say hello! One of the best side profile Hidden Mickeys anywhere is on the trunk of the Swiss Family Treehouse tree. You can spot this image on the way up and on the trek back down; just keep your eyes on the trunk. Mickey is well camouflaged in the green “algae,” and most people walk right by without spotting him!

  1. Hey Steve..

It’s Mike from the Top of the World, your “twin”. LOL That mickey at the Contemporary is the central services shop for the maintenance team. They made it themselves for fun! Good find! It was so nice to meet you tonight!

  2. Hi Steve!
Just by coincidence I was looking at family pictures of a trip to the Contemporary in 1999 and we have a picture of us in front of an outdoor sculpture with what I am sure is the same metal Mickey that you now mentioned is sitting on the roof and can be seen from the monorail. The base of the sculpture looks like the outline of an ear hat, illuminated around the edge with green light and Mickey was sitting in the middle between the two ears. Do you think this is the same Mickey?

  4. Hi Steve! My family really enjoy your books, and we always bring the latest edition with us on our trips to WDW. We have enjoyed hunting those Hidden Mickey’s down! Our favorites include the Hidden Mickey’s in the Wilderness Lodge (Artist Point), and we love the Hidden Mickey in the fish bowl at Pop Century. Keep up the great work!
