New Karamell-Küche in Epcot’s Germany Pavilion

Mmmm… I can still smell the amazing, buttery aroma of freshly made caramel, even now — 24 hours after I first set foot in the new Karamell-Küche shop that opened just a few days ago in Epcot’s Germany pavilion.

This new store, located on the site of the former Glas und Porzellan in the front of the pavilion, is sponsored by Storck USA, makers of Werther’s Original Caramels. It’s unique, in that it is the only freestanding retail location for Werther’s in the world — how did Epcot get so lucky?

Not only does the shop sell a wide array of prepackaged Werther’s candies, but each day cast members are busy making fresh caramel confections, including caramel apples and popcorn, caramel-drizzled cupcakes, rice krispie treats, cookies, strawberries, and much more.

Not only is this place a treat for the nose and tastebuds, but it’s a feast for the eyes, with attractive displays of its goodies, as well as the chance to watch the cast members at work. You can see them mixing up batches of savory hot caramel, or generously drizzling it over popcorn, cupcakes, and a variety of fruit and freshly baked items.

All of this gooey goodness does not come cheap, of course. You can expect to pay $5.45 for a regular caramel-dipped apple, and up to $9.95 for a specialty, such as Rocky Road (covered with nuts, chocolate chunks, and marshmallows) or Apple Pie. But get this! Some of the items count as snacks on the Disney Dining Plan, including the small bag of caramel popcorn ($2.95), the gourmet caramels ($3.95), the chocolate and caramel covered strawberries ($3.95) and several of the various cookies (prices vary).

If you’re buying some of the regular Werther’s candies, you can get 1.8 oz. roll packs for $.95, 4.5 oz. bags for $2.95. You can also get sugar-free Werther’s: 1.48 oz. minis for $1.45; 2.75 oz. bags for $2.95 and 7.7 oz. bags for $8.95.

The shop is open during regular World Showcase hours, and the lines are currently long, but fast-moving. This is one sweet destination, if you’ll pardon the pun, that you should definitely check out on your next visit to Epcot.

  1. I had the caramel popcorn while it was still warm. It was awesome. The best I’ve ever had. I’m going back this month and after I check into my hotel I think that will be my first stop.

  2. Do you know if they mail out the packaged carmel corn??

Deb K replies: Actually, Sheila, I believe that Disney recently switched to a policy of not shipping ANY food items.

  3. Just went to Epcot yesterday, 5/26/11, and tried this place for the first time. Got one of the Peanut Butter Crunch cookies and it was delicious, but next time I think I’d splurge and try one of the amazing looking cupcakes. 🙂

  4. Do you happen to remember how much the colorful tin cans (That looked like quaint candy shops) cost? What great gifts they would make. Thanks.

Deb Koma replies: Sorry, I don’t know. I’m going to Disney World this weekend, though — I’ll try to remember to check the price.

11/15/10: I did check on the tins, and they are $10.95.

  5. We were here last weekend. OMG it is HEAVEN on earth! I wanted an apple but was too full from all the F&W grazing. Got a caramel-chocolate pretzel, a dark chocolate caramel and an oatmeal-apple cookie with caramel. All of it was delicious. I can’t WAIT to go back again!! Seriously, I could live in this place 😉

  6. Hi Deb!

Just got back last night from a day-trip to Epcot. While at Germany we went in to try and get one of those delicious-looking cupcakes but the line was practically out the door (bad timing.) We’ll be going back in two weeks and give it another try.

We thank you so much for the blog. ~ Great Job!

  7. I could smell the wonderful smell of caramel popcorn just looking those pictures. I know where I’m headed in 3 weeks ! Yea !

  8. Just returned from my trip – this was a great stop and I will be returning on my next trip! The carmel corn was amazing, as were the chocolate and carmel covered strawberries! Even my husband, who is not a fan of carmel, loved the corn!

  9. I stopped by Karamell-Kuche and tried there cupcakes which were all fantastic. But the biggest surprise was the Caramel Popcorn hand crafted treats. It is the BEST caramel popcorn I have ever had. Make sure to get the hand crafted one and not a pre-packaged one from the front of the store. The prices are not bad either.. small for $2.95 and large for $5.95. Also, I would eat it the first day and not let it sit till the next day. At that point the popcorn starts to become soft.

  10. Their Milk Chocolate Carmel Popcorn is absolutely delicious! I wish we had known how good it was going to be, because I would have bought more than one bag to bring home with us. YUM!!

  11. These treats look great. Just wondering, do they still have the shop that sells the beer glasses and steins? I just broke one of my husband’s favorite beer glasses from Epcot and hope to get him another one!
    Thanks!

  12. Was the Glas und Porzellan shop the store that sold the Steins? My husband always buys one when we visit,he’ll be so disappointed?

  17. We were in the shop earlier this week, and it was amazing! We tried the Caramel with Almonds and Dark Chocolate – delicious! There were so many choices, it was difficult to select just one thing. I watched the Cast Members drizzling caramel over rice krispie treats – very entertaining. We’ll definitely be taking our kids here during our next trip!

  18. Can’t wait to see this shop. We’ll be there for the Candlelight Processional and we’re eating in Germany for the dinner package. I guess I’ll have to eat a little less streudel and save room for some caramel to eat during the show. Caramel is my very favorite candy!!
