Do You Collect/Trade Pins? If So, What Are Your Favorite Pins?

As you know, pin collection is an extremely popular thing to do for many, many Disney fans. There are thousands of pins for sale throughout Walt Disney World and Disneyland. You can find them at just about any shop whether it be in the parks or hotels. And it seems that new pins are put on sale what seems like every day, so the opportunity to buy and collect is seemingly endless. What a great hobby!

In addition, many of the serious (and not so serious) pin collectors like to trade pins. I’m always amazed at the folks who show up at the various pin trading stations with huge collections ready to trade. Some of those folks have some serious money invested in their collections. However, what I like best is seeing the children walk up to a Disney Cast Member asking to look at his or her pins and then trading with them.

I’m not what you would consider a pin collector. My Disney collecting is limited to books, figurines and ornaments. However, I do have a very small collection of pins. Most of them are pins associated with the Walt Disney Collectors Society figurines, Annual Passholder pins, D23 pins and pins that I’ve received as part of WDW tours that I’ve taken.

In the coming weeks I will blog on more “favorite” things to do in Walt Disney World. Also, let me know if you have any suggestions as to other things you would like to see “top lists” of. I’m open to any and all suggestions. So far readers have suggested I blog on Magical Moments and Favorite Disney snacks, deserts and characters. Great ideas! What do you think? Based on the number of comments, I think you all agree that these are fun to do.

And the winner is: the winner of the AllEars® baseball cap for commenting on my “Favorite Places To Get A Drink In WDW” blog is: Tony Lliteras from Florida. Congratulations to Tony and “thank you” to everyone who took the time to share their “Favorite Places To Get A Drink In WDW” and all the loyal AlllEars® readers!

I also want to comment on last weeks blog. Mickey’s Ice Cream Bar was chosen by most folks as their favorite ice cream treat, by far. However, Dole Whips got quite a few mentions as did Mickey’s Ice Cream Sandwich and the Main Street Bakery Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich. There were lots of other choices named which just goes to show that Disney and Ice Cream go together like Disney and fun times!

Did you know AllEars® has a huge area called Rate and Review where you can share your dining reviews with fellow readers? Check it out!

Finally, be one of the first people to hear when my newest blogs go live on AllEars.net by joining “DisneyMike’s World” Facebook group.

Well, that’s all for now. As my good friend says, “see ya real soon”…DizneyMike

Hey, see this little green button? Well, it allows you to share this blog with your family and friends quite easily. Give it a try; it’s pretty neat!

    Any Mickey pin, really…

  2. My 7 year old and my 3 year old love the pin trading! We have been 3 times to Disney World since they were born, the 1st trip we bought the 7 year old a pin trading kit. The 2nd trip we bought the 3 year old a kit. Our last trip (Sept 2010) they loved trading and both have about 18 total. My 7 year old is now trying to collect some series, this trip she was trying to get as many Vinylmation ones as possible. We also buy the 7 year old a pin for each new ride she ‘braves’. Following are her favorite:

    Pin Collection Favorites

    1)Space Mountain
    2)Vinylmation hamburger
    3)Vinylmation Keeti
    4)Test Track
    5)Vinylmation Ogg

  3. Although I have visited WDW many times, it is only recently that I caught the “pindemic” craze. For me it’s not the thrill of the hunt but the memory of a CM I engaged in conversation and what I learn from them that keeps me excited. In addition to my favorites already acquired, even more remain to be discovered around the neck of a very friendly CM. My “Holy Grail” is Mary Poppins carpet bag!

  4. My family, and I don’t trade any of our pins. We collect them, and we always get one or two each time we visit. The way we pick which one to add to the collection is a special ride or event that happened while we where visiting, and I always get one from the Disney hotel we stay at.

  5. Pin trading “got” me several years ago, and actually caused my fmaily and I to start a website about all kinds of trading pins. These days, I thoroughly enjoy the hobby along with my kids and wife!

  6. favorite pins

    1. passholder pins [me]

    2. pirates and anything shiney [husband]

    3. villians [mother]

my family trades alot between me, my husband and mother we have close to 6000 pins. To some people thats a small collection. we look at it as a scavenger hunt becuase there is always one pin we need for a collection and we all look everywhere to find it.

  7. Wow, pin trading is addictive. I remember when I said I wouldn’t do it three years ago, and it didn’t take long before I was hooked. Pin trading has become one of my favorite reasons to go to WDW. The most important rule is “collect what you like/love.” So, although I have favorites, I always keep an open eye for something new.
    1. My favorite pins are the villains, especially the Evil Queen!
    2. I buy a pin a each trip to represent something special from that trip–either an event, a ride that I rode for the first time, etc.
    3. Toy Story Pins for my son
    4. Pins that have the Yeti from Everest/or the Matterhorn.
    5. Other pins such as Mickey, Florida pins, or like I said something new that catches my eye.

  8. Pin Collection Favorites

    1)Stitch Pins (me)
    2)Tinkerbell Pins (my wife)
3)Pin from the resort we stayed at
4)At least one pin with the year of our visit

We collect pins, but don’t do too much trading. We would like to start doing a little more trading on our next visit. But above is our list of must haves every visit.

  9. I dont really trade pins but I do collect the Pirates of the Caribean pins. My favorite attraction. My wife loves to collect the resort pins fromeach place we have stayed and also the passholder special editions. Our daughters are very ecclectic and all over the place pn their selections but alot of princess pins.

Your comments: I LOVE Disney Pins & trading for them. I just came back from WDW and I was there for 10 days. I brought down a big bag of pins that I had doubles of, etc and traded all of that bag with cast members while I was there and came home with all new pins. I of course also bought some that I really wanted. I love collecting them and my collection is semi-big. I have to go through all of them and put them into my new pin bag I bought while I was down there. Its a great hobby to have, and I love trading with cast members as it always strikes up a conversation and also when I was getting my picture taken with certain characters this year, I noticed that alot of the characters would look at my lanyard to see if I had any pins of “them”. It was very cool. Chip & Dale, Stitch, and Tigger did that to me. Its a great hobby to have. I collect all pins, but I love collecting attractions, hotels, holidays, Hidden Mickey, Cast Lanyard, & D23 pins.

  11. I don’t really trade my pins, I just buy the ones I like! The majority of my pin collection consists of Stich pins, one of my two favorite Disney characters (Eeyore being the other). My favorite pin is my Stich and the Tower of Terror pin. The pin has the TOT elevatore doors and when you slide them open, Stich is in a little bell hopper uniform either pulling the elevator cable. I love it!

  12. I only buy the pins I like.. I traded them at first but I don’t anymore. However I always buy:
1)A pin with the year that we visited
    2) any cool Mickey Pin!
3)My Fantasmic Pin light up! I love it!
    4) I do have a Living Sea’s Pin that is a mickey mouse in scube gear. We traded for it a long time ago. I will never get rid of the pin since technically The Living Seas is no longer there.

  13. Pin Collection Favorites

1)Special Event Pins – MVMCP, MNSSHP, Food & Wine, Holidays Arounf the World; we also have some unusual ones like the pin for 09/09/09 etc.
2)Ride Pins – we are trying to collect 1 pin from every ride in the World!!
3)Hotel Pins – we get a new one when we stay in a new hotel.
4)Restaurant Pins – we love hunting for these hard to finds!
5)Haunted Mansion Pins – my husband is a huge fan and collects all the LE and special event pins!

We also do a fair amount of trading usually about 75 – 100 pins per trip. We purchase lots from ebay knowing that we will be trading only these pins. We think trading is a great way to expand our collection especially when looking for retireds, LE’s, and hard to finds! we currently have about 450-500 pimns in our collection, and ususually come back with at least 20 new pins and then our 75-100 traders!!

  14. Pin Collection Favorites

    1)A new Mickey pin.
2)Resort pin from where we stayed.
    3)Grumpy
4)A Disney character that we don’t have yet.

    Your comments:
I’m not a big collector trader but, I always come home with 3 to 5 new ones every trip.

  15. Pin Collection Favorites

    1)Snowman Mickey Pins
2)One with the year we are there
3)Pins we received from the Tours
4)Pins representing a special memory from our trip.

We have done some trading with Cast Members. Mostly the pins we buy are to keep and we have many. I am always checking the pin trading site to see what is new.

  16. Pin Collection Favorites

    1) One special pin to represent every trip
    2) Mickey Mouse pins
    3) Patriotic pins and Epcot country pins

Each trip I set out to find that very special pin to represent that trip. It can be one with a year or Mickey Mouse holding 5 balloons to represent the 3 in our family plus grandma and grandpa for that trip. I really like to be able to look at the pin and remember the memories from that specific trip.
I also trade a lot of Mickey pins while at the parks. I wish Disney would make a pin so other pin traders know I’m willing to trade! It’s a lot of fun trading with others and the people you meet.

  17. My favorite pins that we have are a couple with environmental messages – Love the World with green Mickey ears, Treasure the Sea with blue Mickey ears, and It’s Easy Being Green with Kermit. My other favorite is an Imagineer name badge looking pin with Figment as the person on the badge.

We have two “categories” of pins – ones that we have purchased because we really liked what was on them (i.e., my boys always want a new Star Wars related pin) and ones that we got specifically for trading. My boys wanted to trade pins, but they couldn’t bear to part with their favorite ones. I ended up buying a couple of mystery lots of about 15 pins on eBay so that they could each have some to trade without having separation anxiety. This is how we ended up with the Figment badge, but most of these original eBay purchases have been traded with various people (mostly cast members). My boys really like talking with the cast members when they are trading, but we have never ventured to trade with the people who they perceive as the “serious” traders (I think they are intimated by the very large selections some of them have).

  18. I do some pin trading at the parks with the Cast members. 🙂

I got most of the Postal Stamp Collection as people had traded them. 🙂

But my most favorite pin i collected for was Jedi Stitch from a cast member at soarin’. :).

Other then that my second favorite is the Film Pin that matches the Film Parking Sign @ Hollywood Studios Because I majored in film in college. Yey.

My 3rd pin favorite is an old looking one. it’s small though. It’s a film reel that says Disney. It looks old because a.) it doesn’t have the newest indication on the back b.) it is not of the same metal. Found it on one of the cast members lanyard.

Other then that i collected those special pin you got when you were picked randomly. :).

  19. Pin Collection Favorites

    1)St Louis Cardinals Mickey
    2)Florida State Mickey
    3)Dead Men Tell No Tales
    4)Epcot Country Flags
    5)Ride related pins.
My collection is semi big. They range from rides and attractions to Star Wars weekends and the Summer of Champions collection. I love collecting them because you have such wonderful stories behind them. I don’t dable in the pin trading because when I buy my pins i’m wanting to keep them and not lose them in case I can’t find them ever again.
