Quiz – Costumes and their Attractions – Questions

It’s time for another quiz. This one is geared to those of you who frequent the Walt Disney World parks.

As you know, I’m always preaching that you should pay attention to the details. Well today’s quiz deals with a “detail” that is in plain sight, the cast members’ costumes. This is something that all of you have seen dozens of times but probably never noticed. Today I’m going to test just how well you really pay attention. All of the cast members depicted here work on an attraction at one of the four Walt Disney World parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom). An attraction can be a ride, show, or exhibit. None of these costumes represent merchandise or restaurant locations unless there is overlap. Your job, guess the attraction.

I do not know any of these wonderful cast members and my selection process was pretty simple. I arrived each day at 9am at one of the four theme parks. Then I made a mad dash to each attraction and asked the first cast member I saw if I could take their picture for a quiz I was preparing. I want to take this time to thank all of these helpful people who agreed to pose for me. You’re great!

Once again, please don’t send me your answers. There are no prizes to win or winners to be announced. This is strictly for your amusement.

  1. Just so you know numbers 4 and 22 are the same costume just the male and female version of it. That costume actually applies to three attractions. Cast members at all three would wear this same costume and it would vary only based on if they were male or female. I did not post which attractions since you want people to guess but just so you know both 4 and 22 would apply to three attractions.

  2. Jack,
Where did you get pictures of the people in their costumes. Im one of them (im not saying which)

    Jack’s Answer:

Knowing that I would be posting these pictures online, I asked everyone if I could take their picture before I snapped. And when I look back at the pictures, it appears as if everyone willingly posed for me. Did I forget to ask you somehow? I would estimate that I told 90% of the CMs that this was for a website and the photo would be posted online — which in some cases, the CM asked not to be included. Obviously, you were in the 10%. Sorry about that. I took ALL of the pictures in early July of this year (maybe a few in late June).

  3. Jack, have you noticed that many cast members look SLOPPY at WDW lately? We were shocked to see cast members walk into the parks from the parking lots – in uniform, but with personal belongings. Do you know what happened to the old policy of never allowing uniformed cast members to be seen out of “character” or outside of their work area? We miss that!

    Jack’s Answer:

In the “old” days, each cast member was assigned a locker and came to work in their street clothes. Each day, they exchanged their dirty costume for a clean one and changed clothes at Walt Disney World. Disney took care of all the laundering. In an effort to save money, this policy was changed. Now, each part-time cast member is provided with three costumes and full-time cast members are given five to take home with them. They now are allowed to wash their own clothes and wear the costume to and from work. They are even allowed to run errands on their way to and from work so long as they take their name tag off. So it is possible to see a “Tomorrowland” cast member shopping in the local supermarkets and Expedition Everest cast member pumping gas.

The Magic Kingdom and Epcot have backstage parking lots where cast members can arrive and depart unseen by the guests. But Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the Animal Kingdom have parking lots adjacent to guest parking (as do most of the resorts). When the cast members arrive for their shift, they usually are carrying their lunch and other personal items.

This policy does not apply to the characters.

  4. Thanks for another great quiz!! I got most of them but was thrilled with the first one. Her name is Mary and she is our very favorite cast member. We always go seek her out on every trip. Did you take this piture recently? I am glad she is still there so we can go by and see her again.

  5. Once again, really enjoyed this quiz. Some were surprisingly difficult. I was stumped on several. Maybe they are rides I do not frequent? About to check my answers….

  6. Jack,

These quizzes are great! Please keep them coming. They are so much fun to sit down with my wife and kids to do these. It is really great when my 6 year old knows the answer before my wife and I. That is what going to Disney is all about, the memories.

    Thanks a lot.

  7. Wow, I definately need the answers for this quiz, I only knew a few of the costumes. Others I recognized, but could not place where I has seen them. Thanks Jack. I LOVE these quizzes. 🙂

  8. Along with being a fun quiz, this really is a testament to the variety and quality of costumes for the Cast Members at Disney parks. Most local/regional amusement parks consist of colored polo shirts (if you’re lucky they’ll be color-coded to rides, merchandise, etc.) and khaki shorts, so the extra layer of detail given to attraction/area-specific costumes just adds to the Disney difference.

  9. Jack,
Another challenging quiz. It was a mixed bag of easy and hard, unfortunately more on the hard side for me. The amount of different uniforms is very impressive.
    Thanks again.

  10. Wow..I never realized how many different costumes/uniforms there were. I know a few. Can’t want to see the answers. Thanks for this post. Got my mind working on a Monday morning!

  11. Hi Jack,

I can’t wait for the answers…some of these were really easy and some were impossible.

Excellent way to start the week.
