Sounds Like Summer Concert Series – Satisfaction

I went into Epcot to do one of my favorite things; to see a concert at the American Garden Theater which is located right in front of the American Adventure. This time of the year we get to see the Sounds Like Summer concert series. Performing in this series are tribute bands playing songs of some truly great recording artists.

Performing last night (7/7/10) was Satisfaction. This is a Rolling Stones tribute band.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the Rolling Stones, they are a 60’s English rock band that became popular in the United States as part of the so called British Invasion. Mick Jagger is their well known, high energy, lead singer. The Rolling Stones are one of the longest lasting bands and rank as the second most successful band of all time. Besides having numerous number one songs, selling millions of records, being one of the most successful large venue concert bands that are also member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Anyway, some of the Rolling Stones hit songs are: (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction, Paint It Black, Time Is On My Side, Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Start Me Up, Under My Thumb, Gimme Shelter, Ruby Tuesday, Honky Tonk Woman and Wild Horses.

I do consider myself a Rolling Stones fan. As a youngster they were one of my favorite bands. I was fortunate enough to see them perform at Manning Bowl (Lynn, MA) on June 24, 1966. That was the first stop on their American tour.

Tip: for those of you who don’t recognize songs by their title (like me) you can go to either YouTube.com and find a video or a website like Amazon.com and look up the greatest hits album. Amazon will allow you to play a few seconds of each song; just enough to help you recognize (or not) the song.

The band, Satisfaction, is a very good Rolling Stones tribute band. There is only one Mick Jagger, however with that said, the lead singer of this group really worked hard to imitate both Mick’s voice and his stage presence. Although not perfect, I thought he did a really nice job. You certainly felt like you were watching the Rolling Stones perform. The band, three guitarist and drummer, were outstanding. The arrangement were very true to the Stones recordings. I did enjoyed this concert and hope that Disney brings them back next year.

I stayed for all three concerts and each set was very different. Very few of the songs were repeated. The Rolling Stones had so many hits so it was great that they tried to play quite a few of them. If you get a chance to see Satisfaction perform I encourage you to do so. I loved signing along to those great songs.

Here’s a few pictures from tonight’s performance for you to enjoy.

  1. Hey Mike,

I love these blogs on the concert series! Makes me wish I was there!

One question for you, when you take pictures of the band could you try to include their equipment a little more?

As a musician myself I am curious as to what guitars and amps these bands tour with. Since their not the original artists and don’t have unlimited funds to buy equipment, they would use more “affordable” equipment.

This is just a thought, I don’t mean for you to go out of your way or anything. Of course I want you to enjoy the show as I enjoy seeing these pictures!

DizneyMike replies: Tony, I’ll see what I can do. If it doesn’t make sense for me to include the pictures into the blog maybe I’ll just email them to you. Can’t promise you anything but will do my best for you…Mike
