Disney Pic of the Week: Trains

Photographic Innoventions by Scott Thomas

The Walt Disney World Railroad consists of four locomotives purchased from United Railways of Yucatan in 1969, shipped to Florida, renovated and renamed. They travel the 1.5 mile circuit around the Magic Kingdom daily and if you stand on the walkway between Toon Town and Tomorrowland, the engineers will put on a show of steam and sound for any guest lifting a camera to capture the beautifully maintained trains Walt Disney would have loved.

  1. Scott what a beautiful shot! I love the trains at MK! They all are beautiful! In the last 18 years of traveling to WDW i have only gotten a few shots of the trains! Why? I really don’t know because I do love trains! When I go in Oct I am going to be on a mission to get a good picture of the MK trains! I can do this mission because I don’t have to rush around the parks anymore like I did years ago! I love your blogs keep up the great photos!

Scott replies: Thank you, Merrie (hey, that’s how my wife spells her name!). I think this location is the best but check with a CM at MK to see how to access this path during the construction period of the Fantasyland expansion.
